Web Accessibility is about making the web usable for all users, with or without disabilities.

Webpress websites are already designed to a high degree of accessability. Creating an accessible website can be achieved by adhering to a strict set of guidelines set down by various organisations. The generally accepted guidelines to follow are the W3C’s Accessibility Guidelines, specifically WCAG 2.0, 2008.

Attaining accessibility compliance can add a few extra days to a web design project. The work essentially involves working through extensive requirement points provided by the W3C (numbering in the hundreds). Mostly the website will meet the requirements, but for some issues change will need to be made. Webpress can provide a document detailing the results of the accessibility compliance effort, listing items that were already satisfied, and items that required changes. Achieving an “A” or “AA” standard is sufficient to be compliant with the disability act. WCAG 2 are organised by 4 layers: principles, guidelines, success criteria and techniques to accomplish them.

Law makers are moving towards a state where accessability is a requirement with national guidelines on accessibility of IT products and services. At Webpress we will ensure that you are compliant with any new legislation.
